Day one wasn’t an extraordinarily exciting day. We did manage to get started much earlier than we planned so that we ended up on the road about two hours ahead of schedule. That was nice because we weren’t rushed and we are truly able to relax. The hardest part of the day was leaving the dogs at their vet’s office for boarding. Both of them were very unhappy with the prospect of being separated from us. I felt like a mother leaving her children at summer camp for the first time. However, I do know that they will take good care of the girls and when we pick them up, they will be very happy to see us. Since we were heading south through Illinois, we had to stop for lunch in Springfield at Cozy Dogs. I had them for the first time last year and they really do make very good corn dogs. I think the best part is that they are hand-dipped. On the way west from Springfield, we noticed that one of our photo ops from last year’s trip had some updates, the Pink Elephant Antique Mall. They have a space ship that you might have seen with Darth Vader in one of our photos from last year and they seem to have fixed it up and have at least one new thing there. Unfortunately we were in the wrong lane since we were not planning to stop there so we didn’t pull off. We’ll have to run by there another time. We arrived in Troy, IL so much earlier than we had planned that we drove around a bit and found a photo-op then grabbed some Dairy Queen & Jack In the Box before checking in at the Super 8. So, we are lounging around the hotel room just relaxing and resting up for a big day tomorrow. Onward to Branson, MO!
